PEGS
Each string demands a precisely defined tension, six to ten kilograms, to speak its true pitch. This delicate adjustment rests on an ancient principle: the tapered peg, held in place by friction within the pegbox, governs the tuning with remarkable accuracy. Though this device, inherited from a long tradition, may appear rudimentary, it is anything but. When perfectly fitted, it offers a sensation of great refinement: a supple motion, a measured resistance, a direct and sensitive command of the tuning. An age‑old mechanism, certainly, yet one whose reliability has been proven time and again.

Technical notes
Our pegs are crafted in three traditional woods: genuine boxwood, rosewood, and ebony. The decorative rings and collars are made of ebony, boxwood, or synthetic ivory — the latter now replacing natural ivory, which has become too restrictive from a regulatory standpoint.
The olivettes may be fashioned in brass or gold, according to aesthetic preference and intended use.
The maximum diameters of the peg cones are as follows:
- Violin: 8.8 mm
- Viola: 9.4 mm
- Cello: 13.8 mm
The taper conforms to modern standards: 1/30 for violin and viola, 1/25 for cello.
